This Christmas holiday, I gave the book Reasons Why You Rock, by Kathy Light to a few of the important chics in my life. Not only is the book itself a great tool to remind yourself (or simply to tell yourself for the first time) why you are such a great woman, but the best part of giving this gift was that I spent time writing to each lovely lady telling them why I think they Rock. It felt great doing this, because even though I have always known they rock, I am not sure I have told them before.
I remember watching Oprah being interviewed by Barbara Walters and she was talking about her friend Gayle King, sharing the reasons why she is her best friend, and when Barbara asked her why she was crying, she said because she didn’t think she had ever told Gayle what she just told millions of viewers.
Bottom line – go out and tell the great women (and men) in your lives why you think they rock. Not only will you feel great, the person you tell will feel appreciated and loved.

My husband Randy, my daughter Elise and I went to Truluck’s in Addison, TX for New Year’s Eve. We’re not ones to party like rock stars anymore, so a nice meal at a place we haven’t experienced in a long time sounded like fun. And what a great idea it was.
They had a fixed price menu for the evening (which anyone that goes out on New Year’s knows this) and the prices are usually more expensive – it’s called demand. I say this because there was a couple there complaining to the manger about not being able to share a fixed price meal. My husband and I laughed because this world is full of entitlement.
Anyway, back to our meal, my husband and I chose different main meals so we could taste each other’s. Randy had Hawaiian tuna cooked medium rare, and I had sea scallops. Our appetizer was stone crab claws, and our desert was carrot cake.
Needless to say, it was by far one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Well worth every penny we paid. When you have so many choices in an area like Dallas, most restaurants are good because of the competition. But this was outstanding. If you haven’t tried Truluck’s, you should check them out. It is on the higher end side (aka pricey), but you won’t be disappointed.

I do not like bags – bags that all retailers try to push when you buy something. Yes, I understand that if you have more than you can carry, that these bags fulfill a need. I especially dont like grocery bags. Does putting a gallon of milk in a bag really help??
But really, what happens to all those bags? My belief is, they always end up in the trash, even if you reuse them at home. So I carry my own bags almost everywhere I go, and if it’s a small purchase I just put it in my large purse.
I can’t tell you how often the guy or gal behind the checkout looks at me strangely when I say “I don’t need a bag”. Sometimes they still put my purchase in a bag, like it’s such an engrained habit that they don’t even hear what I said. What’s crazier, is when that happens, and I remind them that I don’t need a bag, they remove my item and hand it to me, and then throw out the bag that had my item in it! Or, if I forget a bag, and need one because I have too many items, I ask them to put everything in one bag, “Stuff it full” I say, so what do they do? Double bag it! This is one crazy world we live in.
I think all retailers should charge for bags, even just a nickel, to encourage people to bring their own. I think the amount of bags that end up in landfill would be greatly reduced. That’s my great idea!

I thought this would be a great place to start for those that don’t know me. You can Google me and will find over 11,000 name references. I am a simple gal living in Quinlan, TX which is just outside the Dallas Fort Worth Metro. I live in the country with my husband and daughter, and our 4 dogs.
I am an E-commerce owner, currently managing 5 boutique furniture web stores. I have a team of cool chics that work with me. I love what I do because our focus is on providing a great buying experience for our clients, something that few companies focus on anymore.
My background is actually in finance, as I practiced as a personal financial advisor for 10 years before transitioning to my E-commerce business full time. My goal was to work from home. I had this goal when I was first pregnant with my little sunshine. And I turned that goal into reality, with a vision of creating a company that employs other work from home parents.
Topics I enjoy include anything financial related, entrepreneurship and business development, leadership development, raising children, and people and relationships in general. I am also well versed in internet marketing, as that is my day job. I don’t consider myself an expert by any means in these areas, but I think and read a lot about them.
When I look back on my life, the one thing that I know to be true, is that I am exactly where I am supposed to be, as I planned it that way. The life I live today is the vision I had in my early 20s. It’s amazing that if you have a vision and create a plan, you can actually achieve anything. I’m not suggesting it was easy by any means, but is anything worth working for ever easy?

It’s still hard to believe that its 2011. I can remember in the early 90s thinking the year 2000 was so very far away, and here I am, 20 years later. It creeps up on you from nowhere.
My intentions of this blog are to share my thoughts and ideas, some how-to tips, and sometimes, simply things I ponder. I also plan to share the great experiences I have as a consumer, because as a small business owner myself, I know how important word of mouth is. I know your time is valuable and I am not a “fluffy” type of gal, so most of my posts will offer value to my readers. If you have any questions for me or would like me to write on a particular topic within my area of expertise please email me and I promise to personally follow up.
